ARTS EDUCATION IS VITAL

  • The arts teach kids to be more tolerant and open.
  • The arts allow kids to express themselves creatively.
  • The arts promote individuality, bolster self-confidence, and improve overall academic performance.
  • The arts can help troubled youth, providing an alternative to delinquent behavior and truancy while providing an improved attitude towards school.

89% of Americans believe that arts education is important enough to be taught in schools, but the sad truth is, your kids spend more time at their lockers than in arts classes. Read the facts on how arts education helps kids do better. (link to Americans for the Arts.org)

Being involved in the arts changes lives and can be especially powerful in the development of the minds of young people:

Why the Arts Change the Learning Experience…When well-taught, the arts provide young people with authentic learning experiences that engage their minds, hearts, and bodies.  The learning experiences are real and meaningful to them….While learning in other disciplines may often focus on development of a single skill or talent, the arts regularly engage multiple skills and abilities. Engagement in the arts-whether the visual arts, dance, music, theatre or other disciplines-nurtures the development of cognitive, social, and personal competencies….When the arts become central to the learning environment, schools and other settings become places of discovery.”

The typical six-to-eight week program will provide the opportunity for young aspiring actors, directors, writers, designers and technicians to fully experience what it means to be responsible for the execution of a stage play from start to finish.

An application will be forwarded to you with complete instructions by the beginning of April.

As time goes on, the TrapDoor Ensemble Youth Outreach program will continue to expand  throughout the community.  To our members and participants alike, this promises to be the most rewarding and most important function of the company.

Support from businesses and individuals in the community is what gives life to the company and especially this program, so all gifts are greatly needed.
